Permanent Lip Makeup: How long does the recovery process take?

The recovery process takes from 3 to 10 days, after which time the selected colour shade is finally revealed. The time of healing varies with every person and depends on individual metabolic rate and wound healing speed, as well as on how closely a client follows the aftercare instructions.

Aftercare treatment is very important, especially when it comes to  permanent lip makeup. Shortly after the procedure, the punctured area gets covered by small amounts of watery serosanguineous drainage containing both blood and serous fluid. The fluid dries up forming tiny scabs on the skin. This is why the pigment appear dark at this stage.

The scabs remain on the wounded area for about 2 or 3 days, after which they slough off and the underlying pigment is revealed. It is very important to let the scabs slough off naturally without scrubbing or scratching it.

I recommend to apply a thin layer of Bepanthen ointment or any other panthenol containing agent to the damaged skin surface. This will protect the affected area from possible micro-fissures and speed up the regeneration process, which will take up to 10 days.

Permanent lip makeup, as well as permanent eyeliner may produce a considerable swelling, which doesn't stay longer than a day and can be relieved by an antihistamine.
